| ![]() On this page you will be able to find any information that you need as a parent. Let me begin with an introduction to the 2010-2011 school year. This year will be a busy year! Your child will take PASS again this year in March and May. Also, we will be taking the MAP test in September and then again in the spring. The MAP test gives us lots of good information to help us teach your child so please encourage him/her to do their absolute best! This year in Math we will be very busy! Our year will be broken down into four major units--Algebra & Data Analysis, Numbers & Operations, Measurement, and Geometry. We will be continuing with multiplication and also introducing division. We will also be working with fractions and decimals, equations, graphing, three dimensional shapes and lots more! All of our math will be hands-on so we won't be using the textbook. However, all of our notes will be kept in our math notebooks. This year in science we will be studying weather, astronomy, magnetism and electricity, and organisms and their environments in the 4th grade. In the 5th grade we will be studying Environments & Ecosystems, Landforms & Oceans, Property & Matter, and Forces & Motion. ALL of our science will be hands-on. We will be doing experiments and activities in class daily. Typically we will not have any written Science homework but I do ask that your child study her notes every night. All notes will be kept in the Science notebook. At the start of every unit your child will be given a study guide. This study guide will explain the goals and objectives for the unit and will contain an outline of the material that will be tested. If it’s not on the study guide, it will not be on the test! You can also find a copy of the study guide on the science page of this website. If at anytime during the year you need to contact me, please feel free to call the school at 275-1755 or send me an email at aamattson@edgefield.k12.sc.us. |
