On this page you will be able to find information on what we are learning in science. Our science program at Johnston Elementary School is entirely hands-on. During science instruction, students work in cooperative learning groups for investigations. During these investigations we are targeting the science inquiry skills.

We use the FOSS (Full Option Science System) kits to guide our investigations. Our science curriuculum is broken down into four units for the fourth grade: Weather (Earth Science), Astronomy (Earth Science), Magnetism and Electricty (Physical Science), and Organisms and their Environments (Life Science). Our science curriculum for fifth grade is broken down into five units: Variables (Scientific Inquiry), Environments/Ecosystems (Life Science), Landforms and Oceans (Earth Science), Properties of Matter (Physical Science), and Forces and Motion (Physical Science).
