Single-gender education is teaching boys and girls the same standards but doing it within different classrooms. Federal regulations authorize the use of single-gender classrooms, programs, and schools as a way to meet the educational needs of students. Currently, there are over 200 schools in South Carolina that offer some form of single-gender program. Johnston Elementary is proud to be one of those schools.

The single-gender program at Johnston Elementary began about 7 years ago in the 5th grade. Two years ago the program was extended to the 4th grade. This year we will have 1 all boys 4th grade, 1 all boys 5th grade, 1 all girls 4th grade, and 1 all girls 5th grade. For more information on single-gender education check out the following links:
